With their fractured songs, unexpected blasts of feedback, laconic vocals, cryptic literate lyrics, and defiant low-fidelity, Pavement were one of the most influential and distinctive bands to emerge from the American underground in the '90s. Pavement, along with Sebadoh, were the leaders of the lo-fi movement that dominated U.S. indie rock in the early '90s. Initially conceived as a studio project between guitarists/vocalists Stephen Malkmusand Scott Kannberg in the '80s, Pavement gradually became a band during the early '90s. Along the way, their initial EPs and debut album, 1992's Slanted & Enchanted, earned a devoted following of musicians, indie fans, and critics.

Newark Wilder Lyrics

Pavement

Lane driver
The forces against you, the rain
I know everybody wants to put you down
But I know everybodys gonna put me down
I want you
Because Im rushing to feel you
But I wont set you down, I dont need to
[x2]
Fly fly fly fly fly fly fly
Dont try try try try try
Its a brand new era, it feels great
Its a brand new era but it came too late
She wont let you know that I need a right to touch her
She wont let you wait for me
For me to touch you
Crowds of the people and voices and steeples and wedding rings
Wild are the horses and break-up divorces and seperate rooms from
My my my my my my my
I love your tinted eyes
So bad, so bad, so so bad so so bad
She wont let me break you out
When the pictures cut it free
Three of us is enough
Its the simple stuff I need
Cant you see the stuff I need?
Cant you see?
Cant you stuff me?
Stuff me.
